Designer furnishings a warm natural colour palette blend to create a feeling of relaxed luxury in the home of stylist Franco Schifilliti. With a discerning eye and European sensibility, this 60s two bedroom apartment has been transformed into an immaculately styled home. Moving from room to room, classic French and Italian influences merge in a New York loft inspired interior. Applying his fashion expertise in layering texture, colour, and proportion, Franco has brought a sense of casual elegance to the living space while creating a hotel-like feel in the main bedroom and bathroom. Timeless yet modern, every room is a reflection of his talent and personality. Over a cup of Mariage Fréres French Breakfast Tea, I ask Franco about some of his beautiful pieces and favourite finds.

Adorning the living room mantelpiece, beautiful glassware from Franco’s travels sit alongside 1930s fashion prints found at a London flea market.  Fresh flowers from Kate Hill add a pop of orange to the carefully curated green theme.

Soft textures and tones create a warm and inviting space.  Cushions from Moss perfectly complement the ecru curves of a B&B Italia sofa from Space.

A designer recliner becomes a statement in style and comfort.  The plush silhouette from Poltrona Frau in stunning olive green is partnered with a chartreuse coffee table by Kartell.

With views out to the lush green gardens, the intimate dining area is filled with light and designer details.  A Kate Hill flower arrangement creates a backdrop for the industrial pendant light from Euroluce.  For the table’s centrepiece, Franco has chosen petite handmade ceramics from the Jam Factory artists studio in Adelaide.

Miele, Smeg, Neff, and Liebherr – Europe’s finest are all here.  The galley kitchen designed by Andrew Parr of SJB is a home chef’s dream.  Surrounded by floor to ceiling cabinetry, open shelves showcase some of Franco’s favourite Alessi pieces.

In the main bedroom, calming grey walls and Sheridan bedlinen create a monochromatic theme beautifully broken by a colourful Missoni throw from Safari.

Franco’s bathroom designed by Andrew Parr brings a touch of New York to the apartment with subway tiling, vintage style fixtures, and custom perforated steel cabinetry.

Stepping out onto the terrace, striking greens and blues channel the Mediterranean.  The brilliant choice of colour was inspired by one of Franco’s favourite David Hockney paintings ‘A Bigger Splash.’
