As the temperature drops, it’s time to pop on the kettle and start brewing. The cool crisp days of Autumn have well and truly arrived as I make my way on a sunny Saturday to have tea with Vanessa. Greeted by a nice warm cup of crèmé brûlee tea, I’m delighted to be photographing her place.
In her beautifully eclectic home, Italian and Spanish flavours meet a Scandinavian aesthetic with a Parisian sensibility. Together with husband Kerem, Vanessa has given their classic 2-bedroom Victorian a modern makeover to create a welcoming space filled with covetable furnishings, artwork, and plenty of personality.
With high ceilings, generous rooms and a bright sunny courtyard, the couple were drawn to the location in Melbourne’s inner north. Only moments from the CBD and just a stroll away from leafy parks, prime eat streets, and fabulous retail, their home is a peaceful haven offering the best of both worlds.
The entrance hall doubles as an office nook, thanks to a mid-century desk from Modern History. Greeting guests with good fortune, a porcelain hand sits alongside beautiful objects from Space (lamp) and Country Road (pen holder).
Throughout their home, the couple have painted all walls in Dulux Antique White USA, creating the ideal canvas for a collection of artwork and bespoke furnishings. Surrounded by classic Thonet chairs, the custom made Christian Cole dining table is derservingly showcased.
Suspended high above Vanessa’s dining table, hanging baskets from Lunar Store fill the airy space.
Fornasetti wall plates add a touch of Italian surrealism, while the morning Autumn light creates the perfect backdrop for a vignette of glassware.
In true gallery style, textured white walls hero the Megan Weston artwork from Fenton and Fenton. Revamped in bright orange, original mid-century chairs from Grandfathers Axe add an extra pop of colour.
With a love of fashion and art, Vanessa’s enviable collection of design and photography books are artfully displayed on her Mark Tuckey coffee table. Adding a richness and warmth to the living area, a luxe rug from Great Dane defines the space.
Parisian accents and a touch of Scandinavian glam create a dream bedroom. The tufted ottoman and bedhead from Heatherly Designs are perfectly matched with softly textured Sheridan bedlinen. A reindeer skin rug from Great Dane adds a decadent finishing touch.
Vintage prints found in a Parisian market sit behind the modernist curves of a Georg Jensen vase.
Vanessa and Kerem completely redesigned their courtyard with amazing results. Using a blend of concrete, timber, and stone paving with Japanese maples and lush greenery, they’ve created a modern tranquil retreat. Custom made by Slabsbydesign, the outdoor concrete table is complemented with chairs from Blue Dot.
Thanks guys for welcoming me into Casa Vanessa & Kerem – I had a wonderful morning !
