Meet Vanessa, Senior Designer / Lover of Fashion & Art
Your favourite blend of tea?
Peppermint tea is my favourite – it feels really healthy and cleansing. I also find it very soothing and I love the fresh scent.
Where do you love to drink tea?
When I want to switch off, I’ll make a tea and relax on the sofa with a few of my favourite fashion mags.
How would you define your home style?
I like surrounding myself with things that I love and mixing old and new, so my style is quite eclectic. I love art and photography books and my family photos. In other people’s homes, I’m always drawn to mantles filled with family photos and the stories they tell.
This photo of my father was taken in Calvello in Potenza in 1962 when he was 7. There are no other known photographs of dad when he was young, so it’s amazing that I’m able to have it. Dad was contacted through Facebook by someone who found the picture – they thought the boy in the foreground was my father and sent it to him. It’s now very precious to me.
Your favourite piece?
My neon sign – I’ve always loved the sentiment and I’ve always had an obsession with neon lighting and typography. Designing it was a lot of fun, and I felt it was more interesting to create something than to buy a piece of artwork for that space.
Describe your perfect Melbourne day.
After an early power walk, I’ll make my way down to Flowers Vasette and buy whatever is in season as a bit of a ‘feel good’ treat – flowers always lift the mood of a room. Then I’ll pop into Dench’s and get some fresh bread and muffins. In the evening, Kerem will usually cook up something yummy – his pasta ragu is delicious !
Favourite place in the world?
There are so many places it’s hard to choose – New York and Tokyo are definitely on my list. I also love Valencia in Spain. The contrast between old and new architecture is beautiful. It feels so different from anywhere else in Spain with amazing architecture that I haven’t seen elsewhere – the Centre for Arts and Science building is one of my favourites.
What makes you the most happy?
A lazy Sunday afternoon and spending time with Kerem. Being outside always makes me happy – going for a walk around Fitzroy and Collingwood, exploring the neighbourhood and trawling through vintage furniture stores.
Your personal motto?
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
